About Experiential EE
Experiential EE, LLC provides consulting and project management services on water resources topics for adults and youth. The company was launched in 2005 with the mission of inspiring K-12 public and private school teachers to use water as a theme to teach curriculum standards not only in science, but in all core subjects. All projects are carried out by teams of independent contractors who have a wide range of skills, work experience, certifications and interests. Experiential EE, LLC is owned and operated by Katie Farley Babuska.
Katie Babuska
Katie grew up on the Maryland side of the Chesapeake Bay watershed where she developed a passion for helping people and communities understand the connection between personal action and outcome, especially with regard to the environment. She received her B.S. from Hood College in Maryland and M.Ed. from The University of Texas at Austin. Katie has worked in the Washington, D.C., Ithaca, N.Y., Austin and central New Mexico areas in a variety of industries including for-profit, non-profit, trade association and continuing higher education. Her areas of expertise include the development and implementation of outreach programs for youth and adults; senior level human resource management and staff development; organizational development; and coalition building between business and education. During her downtime from fundraising and project managing, Katie enjoys digging in her garden, hiking in the mountains of the Rio Grande watershed, and baking homemade bread for her husband and two sons. Other websites include www.waterfestnm.com and www.riverxchange.com.
Connie Crandall
Passionate about wildlife and conservation from a young age, Connie received her B.S. in Biology from Brigham Young University. She has been involved in the biological sciences and education in a variety of positions, having worked as an assistant museum curator, laboratory technician, research scuba diver, field researcher for the United States Forest Service and vice principal of a private school. She joined the ABCWUA education team in 2007 as a water resource educator. Connie enjoys teaching about smart water use to the young people of Albuquerque, where she was born and raised. Music is another passion, which has come in handy over the past two years during which time she has composed and recorded songs for the ABCWUA website education page. Connie has traveled and lived throughout the U.S., Germany, New Zealand and Brazil, and is fluent in Portuguese. Her love of other cultures and new teaching challenges makes her work as a water resource educator very satisfying.
Kelly Goff
Kelly grew up in Albuquerque, but moved away when she was in high school. After medical school, residency, and a career in the Air Force, she moved back to Albuquerque in 2007. Though trained as a pathologist, Kelly has taken the last few years off from her medical career to raise her children. Her interest in the environment and environmental medicine has grown during this time. As a child growing up in a lush green Albuquerque neighborhood, no one seemed concerned about water. It never dawned on her that Albuquerque was in a desert! Now she is thrilled to be a part of this robust water resource education program for Albuquerque’s school children, helping to coordinate the educators and the presentation requests from teachers across the city.
Erin J. Keck
Erin brings a wealth of teaching experience in a variety of settings with her to her current position as a water resource educator on the ABCWUA education team. She has taught people of all ages, from preschool students in a Headstart program to illiterate adults. The majority of her classroom teaching experience has been in a bilingual program, where she instructed in Spanish half of the time. Erin received her B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing from UCLA before deciding to pursue teaching. She completed her K through 8 teaching license with the University of New Mexico and then obtained a bilingual endorsement through the College of Santa Fe and the Universidad de Guanajuato. More recently, she completed her certification to teach yoga and is training to become a yoga therapist, combining her love of teaching with her interest in health and wellness. When not teaching something to someone, she spends most of her time chasing her two little boys on bikes or up mountains. Her interests include yoga, backpacking and exploring the wilderness, reading, cooking and enjoying good food with friends, and travel. She hopes to impart some of her passion for protecting the environment in her lessons to students of all ages about the importance of water conservation.
Alison Olt Kerr
Alison joined the Experiential EE team in 2008 as a water resource educator, but recently left the high desert for the Pacific Northwest, where the lack of precipitation is not a problem, but water conservation is still crucial. She keeps a watchful eye over the RiverXchange Wiki, usually while parked in a Wi-Fi hot spot with a napping toddler in the back seat. She is passionate about the environment, education and all things green. And knitting. She's fanatical about knitting. Alison holds a BA in Chinese and East Asian Studies from Middlebury College and a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University.
Michelle Kjeldgaard
Michelle works as a Festival Coordinator, handling volunteers and teachers, for the annual Children’s Water Festival. She enjoys helping to produce this amazing event that educates our young people about water and how to protect it. Michelle graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City with a degree in Marketing Communications. She has worked in the corporate world promoting internationally renowned brands but prefers working more on a local level with organizations that are trying to help make the world a better place to live. When not working, Michelle loves to ski, run, hike, read, take yoga classes and spend time with her family.
Bonnie Schmader
Bonnie has enjoyed working as an environmental educator since 1990. Before joining Experiential EE in 2008, she has worked for the U.S. Forest Service, the Albuquerque BioPark, the City of Albuquerque Open Space Division, and the Jane Goodall Institute’s Roots & Shoots program. She has also provided contract services for curriculum development and teacher training for New Mexico State Parks, the University of New Mexico and the Southwest Education Institute of the Southwest (SEIS). As part of the ABCWUA education team and the RiverXchange team, Bonnie teaches water resource education in elementary school classrooms and assists in coordinating fieldtrips for the RiverXchange program. She has also helped plan and facilitate Project WET teacher professional development workshops for Experiential EE. When Bonnie isn’t teaching students about water resources, she’s playing her flute and harp for hospital patients as a therapeutic musician, and traveling with her husband.
Michelle Watson
Michelle has been involved in managing the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Children’s Water Festival since 2007. She received her B.S. in Computer Science from New Mexico State University and worked as a software engineer for 10 years while living in Colorado. This background has been put to use in analyzing data to improve various forms of outreach conducted by the festival and education teams. She is passionate about water! Her other interests include coaching swimming and participating in triathlons.
